On August 16, 2024, Scania officially launched its new Super series in the Chinese market through a virtual event themed “Heritage Renewed, Infinite Future.” The event showcased the latest technological advancements and market strategies of Scania, introducing the Super product lineup, comprehensive upgraded solutions, and the initial market prices for the first batch of models. The Super series, featuring Scania’s most advanced internal combustion powertrain, achieved a breakthrough in fuel efficiency, offering a 10% fuel savings compared to the current NTG models, marking a significant technological milestone in the heavy truck industry.

A Timely Move Towards a Green, Low-Carbon Future
The global transportation industry, including China, is rapidly transitioning towards greener, low-carbon, and smarter solutions. The launch of the Scania Super series aligns perfectly with this trend. This series not only significantly reduces fuel consumption and enhances overall operational efficiency for customers but also contributes to reducing carbon emissions, reflecting Scania’s commitment to sustainability and technological innovation. David Källsäter, Managing Director of Scania Sales (China) Ltd., emphasized that the Super series has already received numerous prestigious international awards, including the “Green Truck” award in 2022 and 2024, underscoring its global recognition and outstanding performance.

Revolutionary Breakthrough in Fuel Efficiency

The development of the Scania Super powertrain is based on the company’s low-rev, high-torque design philosophy. After five years of development and an investment exceeding 2 billion euros, it has become the most advanced internal combustion powertrain in Scania’s history. In a test route from Yunnan to Guangdong, covering a round trip of 2,685 kilometers, the Super 460 G 6×2, fully loaded, recorded an average fuel consumption of just 26.18 liters per 100 kilometers, demonstrating its exceptional fuel efficiency in real-world Chinese transportation scenarios.
Efficient and Durable Powertrain Configuration

The Super powertrain consists of a 13-liter engine, the Opticruise G25/G33 gearbox, and the R756 rear axle. These components work together seamlessly to deliver outstanding fuel efficiency and reliability. The Super 13-liter engine achieves a thermal efficiency of 50% and features a Twin SCR system to reduce carbon emissions, with a 30% extension in engine lifespan. The Opticruise G25/G33 gearbox is more compact, lighter, quieter, and has an extended oil change interval. The R756 rear axle has been further optimized in design, reducing internal friction and extending both service life and maintenance intervals.

The chassis and exterior of the Super series have also undergone significant upgrades, including a new D-shaped fuel tank and a fuel optimization unit that further improves fuel utilization efficiency. The front of the vehicle features additional grille LED lights, enhancing night driving safety. All models come standard with aluminum alloy wheels, reducing vehicle weight and helping to lower fuel consumption.
