FAW Jiefang 6DV Super Factory Starts Production and Debuts First Hydrogen Engine

On December 5, the “New Power, Hydrogen Leads the Future” ceremony for the launch of FAW Jiefang’s 6DV Super Factory and the release of its first hydrogen engine was grandly held in Dalian, Liaoning. This marks a key step for FAW Jiefang in the field of green intelligent transportation, opening a new chapter for the development of new production capabilities.

The ceremony was attended by Li Lecheng, Vice Secretary of the Liaoning Provincial Committee and Governor of Liaoning Province; Xiong Maoping, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Committee and Secretary of Dalian Municipal Party Committee; Chen Shaowang, Vice Secretary of Dalian Municipal Party Committee and Mayor of Dalian; Feng Shouquan, Secretary General of the Liaoning Provincial Government; Zhang Yong, Director of the Research Office; Wang Shouyu, Secretary of the Party Working Committee of Jinpu New Area; Qiu Baolin, Vice Mayor of Dalian; Tang Yi, Secretary General of the Dalian Municipal Government; and other provincial and municipal leaders. From FAW Group, key leaders including Qiu Xiandong, Chairman of FAW Group; Wu Bilei, Vice President of FAW Group and Chairman of FAW Jiefang; Jiang Wenhui, Director of the Office; and Sun Huibin, General Manager of the Strategy and Cooperation Department were present. Additionally, FAW Jiefang’s General Manager Li Sheng and other senior leaders, as well as leaders from strategic partners and over 30 media representatives from outlets such as Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, and China Daily, gathered to witness this historic moment. General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that developing new production capabilities is an intrinsic requirement and important focus for promoting high-quality development.

At the event, Li Lecheng, Qiu Xiandong, Xiong Maoping, Chen Shaowang, Wu Bilei, Feng Shouquan, Jiang Wenhui, Sun Huibin, and Li Sheng jointly launched the release ceremony of the CA6HV3 hydrogen engine. As the leaders pressed the launch button, an AGV carrying the engine slowly drove out, making a stunning appearance and impressive release.

The CA6HV3 hydrogen engine is FAW Jiefang’s independently developed, domestically first heavy-duty commercial vehicle direct-injection hydrogen engine. It boasts the highest thermal efficiency in the industry, a leading B10 lifespan, and achieves zero carbon emissions, marking another significant achievement for FAW Jiefang in the development of new production capabilities.

Collaborative Development, Creating a New Model of Government-Enterprise Cooperation

At the same time, FAW Jiefang’s medium and heavy-duty engine upgrade project officially settled in Dalian.

Wu Bilei stated that FAW Group attaches great importance to its development in Liaoning, with the support of provincial and municipal governments, many enterprises have established operations in Liaoning. The launch of the FAW Jiefang 6DV Super Factory and the release of the first hydrogen engine highlight the government’s and enterprises’ commitment to the new development philosophy and demonstrate FAW Group’s unwavering strategy for new energy development and FAW Jiefang’s strong determination to lead the hydrogen energy industry. With the support of the Liaoning Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, FAW Jiefang will leverage the super factory as a platform and the launch of the first hydrogen engine as an opportunity to drive the local industrial chain’s leap forward, supporting Liaoning’s “trillion-dollar dream” and China’s commercial vehicle industry development.

Chen Shaowang stated that Dalian City is actively implementing General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions for the comprehensive revitalization of the northeast, Liaoning, and Dalian, advancing the construction of “Two Advanced Zones” and “Three Centers,” along with the establishment of a modern industrial system, achieving phased results. The production of the FAW Jiefang 6DV Super Factory and the release of the first hydrogen engine will assist in the creation of a trillion-level automotive industry cluster in Dalian and contribute to national “Five Major Safeguards.” He hopes that FAW Jiefang will soon complete production to promote the high-quality development of Dalian’s equipment manufacturing, and that the Jinpu New Area will provide excellent service to create a model of central-local cooperation. Enterprises are encouraged to expand their investments, enhance cooperation, and create a new chapter of mutual benefit and win-win results.

During the ceremony, Dalian Jinpu New Area and FAW Jiefang’s Powertrain Division signed an investment agreement for the FAW Jiefang Daqi Medium and Heavy-Duty Engine Upgrade Project.

The project is expected to have a total investment of 614 million yuan, covering the production lines for 5-7L medium-duty engines, heavy-duty hydrogen engines, and related facilities. Among them, the CA6HV3 production line is the world’s first hydrogen engine production line, which will help FAW Jiefang build a more comprehensive powertrain product line and accelerate its pace in the new production capability sector.

Technology Empowerment, Setting a New Benchmark for Intelligent Manufacturing

In recent years, FAW Group has deeply implemented General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the FAW inspection, mastering key core technologies, establishing a national automotive brand, and building a world-class enterprise.

On the day of the event, the FAW Jiefang 6DV Super Factory officially started production. Liu Peng, Deputy General Manager of FAW Jiefang’s Powertrain Division and Director of the Daqi Factory, introduced the super factory and its future plans.

The FAW Jiefang 6DV Super Factory began construction in July 2022 with a total investment of 620 million yuan. With the strong support of Liaoning Province, Dalian City, and Jinpu New Area, it has been built as a new benchmark in intelligent manufacturing.

The super factory has an annual production capacity of 50,000 engines and integrates three core features: super technology, super efficiency, and super intelligence.

In terms of super technology, the factory pioneers a bevel gear assembly process with a machining accuracy of 5H level, an automation rate of 83%, leading the industry, and also introduces green energy-saving technologies like photovoltaic power, air-source heat pumps, and sludge drying, reducing carbon emissions by 9,249.54 tons and hazardous waste emissions by 106.5 tons.

In terms of super efficiency, the lean production line design achieves the best layout and highest production efficiency in its class. Combined with top-quality control methods, it follows the “one-flow, no-drop” lean production model, with an LTE greater than 90% and a first-pass yield rate of 99.99%, leading the industry in automation and seamlessly blending efficient production with excellent quality.

In the field of super intelligence, the factory has established six major management lines, 20 BI display modules, and 21 intelligent decision-making models. The operational efficiency has been increased by 30%, and the intelligent logistics system’s fine-tuned, dynamic, and visual management has led to a 67.6% reduction in manpower requirements, achieving the highest level of industry intelligent manufacturing—integrated level three standards.

Currently, the core product of this factory is the globally first green intelligent power domain 6DV engine, which stands at the forefront of the industry with its benchmark performance. Its mass production thermal efficiency is the highest in the industry, and with a powerful 640Ps and an immense 3000Nm torque, it sets a new peak for power. Its two-million-kilometer lifespan and long maintenance cycle are also industry-leading, providing users with an unparalleled experience from multiple dimensions, showcasing extraordinary industrial charm and technological strength.

Looking ahead, FAW Jiefang will accelerate the upgrade of the factory to fully meet the production needs of 15L natural gas engines, 15L hydrogen engines, 14.5L diesel engines, and 5-7L new medium-duty engines.

The launch of the FAW Jiefang 6DV Super Factory and the first hydrogen engine is not only a major leap in FAW Jiefang’s core powertrain competitiveness but also a key milestone for China’s powertrain industry embarking on a new journey.
