Scania’s new manufacturing facility, with an investment of €2 billion, is nearing completion in Rugao, Jiangsu Province, just 200 kilometers from Shanghai. According to the latest updates, the plant is scheduled to begin production in October 2025.

At full capacity, the factory is expected to produce around 50,000 trucks per year, playing a critical role in Scania’s global strategy. Trucks produced here will be delivered to customers in China, other Asian countries, and parts of the Pacific region—some of the fastest-growing markets in the world.
When announcing the news, a Scania representative offered a simple yet powerful example: If a customer from an Asian country decides to purchase a Scania truck today, they typically have to wait six to seven months for it to be imported from Sweden, the Netherlands, or Brazil. This not only requires patience but also comes with significant costs, reducing Scania’s competitiveness compared to other truck brands.
With local production in China, Scania is now entering a new chapter in its quest to win over more customers across Asia, significantly reducing lead times and improving cost-efficiency.
