Recently, BYD officially launched the BYD SHARK 6 in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. As the first plug-in hybrid pickup truck in the Sri Lankan market, the BYD SHARK 6 combines robust off-road performance, next-generation hybrid technology, and premium SUV-level luxury configurations, filling a gap in Sri Lanka’s niche market and creating an entirely new vehicle category.

To celebrate the new vehicle’s launch, BYD held a BYD SHARK 6 Experience Day at Port City Colombo. Media and automotive KOLs were invited to personally test the vehicle under the guidance of professional drivers on a custom-designed obstacle course, experiencing its dynamic performance and rugged off-road capabilities in sandy, steep, and muddy conditions, and gaining firsthand insight into the SHARK 6’s design aesthetics, manufacturing craftsmanship, and all-terrain capabilities.

Mr. Liu Xueliang, General Manager of BYD’s Asia-Pacific Automotive Sales Division, stated at the launch: “We are deeply proud of BYD’s outstanding achievements in Sri Lanka to date, and the introduction of the BYD SHARK 6 will sustain and accelerate this positive momentum. We believe this model, which combines multi-scenario practicality with high energy efficiency, will surely win wide favor among Sri Lankan consumers. Looking ahead, BYD will continue to deepen its presence in the Sri Lankan market, expand its product lineup, and offer more diversified choices to local users.”

The DMO platform is one of the core technologies of the BYD SHARK 6. This platform ensures the vehicle delivers both rugged off-road performance and safety, as well as SUV-comparable comfort and low energy consumption. This technology innovatively integrates a new hybrid ladder-frame architecture, a globally pioneering longitudinal EHS drive unit, front and rear double-wishbone independent suspension, and a pickup-specific four-wheel drive system, ensuring a balance of performance and comfort. It brings a more reliable and effortless travel experience to pickup users in Sri Lanka.

At the conclusion of the launch event, Mr. Liu Xueliang, General Manager of the Asia-Pacific Automotive Sales Division, handed over the keys to the BYD SHARK 6 to the first five Sri Lankan customers who placed orders. This marks the “launch-to-delivery” realization of the BYD SHARK 6 in Sri Lanka, continuing to lead the new pattern of new vehicle delivery in the country. The successful launch of the BYD SHARK 6 in Sri Lanka not only fills the local market gap for plug-in pickups but also completes BYD’s vehicle matrix in Sri Lanka; “launch-to-delivery” is a strategic microcosm of BYD’s accelerated global expansion and a testament to BYD’s establishment of innovative service standards in the global market with “Chinese efficiency.”
