On May 7, 2025, the Tianxing B bus series, Tianxing H heavy commercial vehicle series, and Tianxing L light commercial vehicle series battery packs of Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) respectively passed the inspection of GB 38031-2025 “Safety Requirements for Power Batteries for Electric Vehicles” (hereinafter referred to as the “new national standard”) in authoritative third-party inspection institutions such as China Merchants Vehicle Research & Testing Center, China Automotive Engineering Research Institute Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Motor Vehicle Inspection Center. They have become the first batch of commercial power batteries in China that meet this standard, setting a new high-safety standard benchmark for the commercial vehicle market.

The new national standard released on March 28, 2025, is known as the strictest safety standard for power batteries in history. With the three core dimensions of thermal runaway diffusion protection, bottom collision safety, and safety after fast charging cycles, it adds a number of stringent tests and requirements. As early as 2020, CATL took the lead in proposing and mass-producing batteries equipped with the first-generation non-thermal runaway diffusion (NP) technology, achieving no fire and no explosion, and meeting the requirements of the new national standard six years in advance. Currently, CATL continues to iterate the NP technology, including NP2.0, which can achieve active separation of high voltage and flue gas, and NP3.0, which can achieve “no smoke in thermal runaway”. As the first batch of commercial power batteries to pass the new national standard test, CATL’s Tianxing batteries have proven their outstanding safety and reliability with their strength. The first compliance of CATL’s Tianxing batteries with the new national standard provides a demonstration of high-safety solutions for the commercial vehicle market and will further promote the global electrification process.

The release of the new national standard demonstrates the country’s high attention to the safety of new energy vehicle batteries. It will further promote the overall quality improvement of the power battery industry and ensure the safety of the lives and property of drivers and passengers.
