In the field of resource transportation, coal transportation conditions have always imposed extremely strict requirements on vehicle reliability, economy, and weight control. For a long time, this segmented market has been dominated by products that balance high cost-effectiveness, ultra-light weight, and diverse powertrains, making it difficult for other products to shake the market position of bestsellers.
However, this situation is being broken—FAW Trucks launched its all-new tractor specifically designed for resource transportation today: the Faw Yingchi.
The Ideal Choice for Resource Transportation: Three Energy Types + Ultra-Low Weight of 7.4 Tons
As shown in the figure, from left to right are the fuel version, gas version, and battery swap version respectively. This means the Faw Yingchi tractor has fully covered the mainstream energy types in the current market, with a full range of products developed to cater to the preferences of users in different coal transportation regions. For example, users on routes in Shanxi and Xinjiang (where gas prices are low) can choose the gas-powered Yingchi; in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region (with strict emission restrictions for factory-entry vehicles), Yingchi can provide electric tractors; and for users who prioritize stability and operate nationwide, the fuel-powered Yingchi is still an option. Although resource transportation is a segmented market, user demands are no less than those in traditional logistics—and the three powertrain options of Faw Yingchi demonstrate the brand’s comprehensive consideration in product lineup layout.
Among the powertrain configurations:
- Fuel models are equipped with FAW Power 6DM2 490hp and 6DM3 520hp engines;
- Gas models adopt 6SM6 506hp and 6SM7 536hp engines;
- Electric heavy-duty trucks offer battery capacities ranging from 400kWh to 452kWh, with both charging and battery swap options.
The powertrain of internal combustion models all consists of Faw T-Shift transmission + Faw independent axle. Currently, all available vehicles are equipped with a 12-speed overdrive gearbox + 3.7 gear ratio 425 single-reduction axle. This powertrain combination perfectly adapts to complex road conditions such as highways and national highways, while balancing power and economy—it is also known in the industry as the “golden powertrain match.”
In terms of accessory configurations:
- A hydraulic retarder is also available as an option, helping users reduce the frequency of brake use during long downhill drives and preventing overheating of the braking system;
- The standard 1350L gas cylinder can be upgraded to a 1500L cylinder for longer range;
- For tractors, the diesel filter water separator configuration has been updated, with an added oil circuit de-bubbling function to ensure worry-free operation.
In previous mid-year product reports, I mentioned the weight of Yingchi: the fuel version weighs 7.4 tons, the gas version 8.26 tons, and even the electric version only weighs over 9 tons. Yingchi well inherits the lightweight advantages of FAW Trucks Qingqi, and further reduces weight through the technical topology of the new platform and the application of new materials. For example, the classic combination of Faw Yingchi 6X4 gas model + lightweight 3-axle stake trailer (with a GVW of 49 tons) enables the total weight of the tractor-trailer combination to be reduced to less than 15 tons, ensuring users have a rated load capacity of 34 tons or more. For coal, sand, and gravel transportation (where fees are calculated by weight and “carrying more and running faster” is critical), Jiefang Yingchi is undoubtedly the ideal choice.
Vehicle Sales Mark the Start of Services, Not the End,Resource transportation involves high vehicle usage intensity, so demands for after-sales services are naturally higher. Faw Yingchi provides ten service commitments to ensure users’ worry-free operation, including full coverage of the service network, timely response to emergency assistance, extended warranty, free rescue, and non-stop service. It can be said that Jiefang service stations cover all coal transportation routes, with fast service response available 24/7; the three major assemblies (engine, transmission, axle) come with a lifetime warranty; free towing, maintenance, and replacement vehicles are provided in case of faults. These commitments not only reassure users but also reflect Faw Trucks’ confidence in its product quality.

Yingchi is bound to create a new sales legend for Faw Trucks in the resource transportation market once again!”
All-New Cab Appearance, Further Upgraded Comfort
As a cost-effective product, Faw Yingchi retains the high-roof, low-floor configuration favored by users. The cab adopts a 4-point air suspension system to ensure driver comfort. The main structure of the cab has been upgraded with a second-generation frame-type body-in-white, resulting in a design with a nearly uniform width from bottom to top (no narrowing toward the top), significantly improving in-cab space experience.
The second-generation frame-type body-in-white offers high safety:
- It adopts a cage structure, with a cab frame stiffness of 1300 MPa and a 300% increase in torsional stiffness, ensuring higher cab strength and better load-bearing capacity;
- Additionally, the Faw Yingchi cab features a breakaway rearward-moving design—during a rear-end collision, the cab can move backward to reserve more survival space.
The design inspiration of Faw Yingchi’s appearance comes from “eagle wings,” resembling a falcon spreading its wings and shaped like a treasure bowl. The central eagle logo stands tall like an eagle’s head, symbolizing “galloping freely and moving forward smoothly.” The design combines aerodynamics with visual impact, boasting industrial aesthetics while ensuring efficient engine heat dissipation.
The rearview mirrors feature an all-new design with an integrated frame for a more sleek look; electric adjustment and heating functions are available as options. The lens layout (main mirror on top, auxiliary mirror below) maintains Jiefang’s long-standing tradition.
Yingchi uses integrated headlights designed like “eagle claws”—folded and ready to strike. All light sources inside the headlights are LED; high and low beams are equipped with lenses, and fog lights are located at the bottom. With this lighting configuration, Yingchi can easily compete with oncoming high beams during night drives on national highways in Shanxi.
Faw Yingchi comes standard with multiple active safety configurations, including ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), ESC (Electronic Stability Control), forward collision warning, and lane departure warning. AEBS (Automatic Emergency Braking System) will be added to products next year, providing all-round protection for the driver’s life and property safety.
Elegant and Practical “Leaf Rhyme” Interior, with Standard Seat Ventilation
The driver’s seat comes standard with a multi-functional air-suspension seat, featuring tilt adjustment, damping adjustment, height adjustment, lumbar support, and seat ventilation. Observing the on-site display vehicles, I found that all are equipped with seat ventilation—indicating this function is standard on Faw Yingchi, effectively enhancing comfort for drivers during long hours of sitting.
The interior line design is elegant and natural, abandoning the rigid horizontal/vertical style of traditional heavy-duty trucks. Faw Yingchi’s interior incorporates the soft lines and fluidity of leaves, reflecting profound cultural heritage. Amid the current popularity of traditional Chinese style, this design conveys cultural confidence and Faw’s sense of historical responsibility to the world.
Faw Yingchi is equipped with a 4-spoke multi-functional steering wheel + mechanical instrument cluster. This configuration is conventional but highly practical.
A large LCD infotainment screen is standard from the factory. The UI is simple and easy to operate, integrating functions such as Bluetooth, navigation, APP ecosystem, and air conditioning control. Notably, Faw Yingchi adopts automatic air conditioning—drivers do not need to frequently adjust the temperature while driving; once the desired temperature is set, the air conditioning system maintains a constant temperature in the cab automatically.
There are three overhead storage compartments, plus two open storage slots below, with a total overhead storage capacity of 155L. Storage space is also designed under the sleeper, connected to the side storage box of the cab, with a total capacity of 240L—sufficient for two drivers.
The widened rear wall of the cab provides a larger lower sleeper, with a maximum width of 910mm and a length of 2100mm, offering drivers excellent resting conditions.
The floor hump height of Faw Yingchi is 150mm (15cm). Combined with the high-roof design, a 1.8m-tall driver can stand fully upright inside the cab. In FAW trucks’ tests, the cab of Yingchi can easily accommodate 15 adult males.
Dynamic Experience: All-New Upgraded Driving and Riding Experience
As a final “easter egg,” I got to experience the all-new Jiefang Yingchi on-site—let’s talk about the driving and riding experience in detail.
My first impression of the vehicle was that it felt different from the Han VH or JH6 Premium Edition I had driven before. Faw Yingchi is highly targeted at short-haul resource transportation scenarios, where national highways account for more than half (or exactly half) of the routes. In such conditions, drivers’ workload is inevitably high. Faw Yingchi has upgraded steering effort, throttle/brake linearity, and other aspects: the brake no longer has the “sudden jolt” feel of traditional air brakes; instead, the braking force is proportional to pedal input, similar to EBS (Electronic Braking System)—the pedal feel is soft but the braking response is precise. This alone saves drivers a lot of effort when driving on national highways.
Shifting is also improved: Faw’s new T-Shift transmission is equipped with pneumatic shift assist, and the clutch also has light pneumatic assist—shifting with one clutch press per gear is very simple. Additionally, the transmission’s redundant design allows experienced drivers (who prefer not to use the clutch) to adapt easily: as long as the throttle and engine speed are well-matched and the driver becomes familiar with the vehicle, clutch-free shifting is possible after starting.
Guided by the test driver, I experienced the vehicle’s acceleration, cornering, and dynamic performance in special road conditions. For a 500hp manual empty tractor, acceleration is effortless. Combined with the fast transient response and strong low-end torque of the Faw Power engine, accelerating the empty vehicle to 80km/h is easy. This performance is also excellent for loaded vehicles: starting from traffic lights is smooth, and the strong low-speed torque eliminates the need for “half-clutch” operation during startup—protecting the clutch as well.
I also experienced special road conditions such as twisted roads, washboard roads, and Belgian roads, with two key takeaways:
- High comfort brought by the widened cab air suspension, upgraded chassis suspension, and enhanced chassis rigidity. When passing through twisted or bumpy roads, the vehicle feels stable overall; the cab, paired with long-travel leaf springs on the front axle, delivers a flexible yet firm shock absorption effect, minimizing cab vibration. This makes Faw Yingchi very comfortable to drive on national highways with poor road conditions.
- No abnormal noises inside or outside the vehicle. Although Faw Yingchi is a new model, it has undergone millions of kilometers of road testing and calibration by FAW trucks Qingqi’s senior quality inspection team. I carefully listened to the door panels, instrument panel, overhead compartments, and even the suspension bushings—even at higher speeds on washboard roads, there were no abnormal noises. Unlike many heavy-duty trucks that produce “metal-on-metal” sounds from the chassis when driving on rough roads, Faw Yingchi had none. A big thumbs-up to the final assembly quality inspection team!

Let’s end with a photo I took of the 2009 Xindayiwei statue in the factory. It stands quietly, just as it did when it traveled through mountains and rivers back then. It is a coordinate of countless people’s youth, a well-deserved “legendary vehicle” in the resource transportation field, and a symbol of an era. It has witnessed the glory of Faw Trucks and carried the trust and love of countless transporters. Today, Yingchi is driving along the ruts left by its predecessors, heading toward the next glory.
