On the morning of July 19, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for the hydropower project on the lower reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River was grandly held in Nyingchi, Tibet. As a strategically significant national energy project, it will not only significantly improve the comprehensive development and utilization of hydropower resources, but also inject strong impetus into the domestic engineering vehicle market.

In the face of such a large-scale energy project construction, the demand for various heavy machinery is self-evident. From the transportation of stone and earthwork to the pouring and conveying of concrete, engineering vehicles such as dump trucks, mixers and pump trucks are bound to become indispensable forces on the construction site, ushering in a new round of market opportunities across various domestic application scenarios.
High-Roof Single-Berth Spacious Cab & Brand-New Three-Section Bumper Design

Generally speaking, engineering vehicles are equipped with dedicated cabs to meet a series of requirements such as lightweight design, cost reduction and passability in special environments. This has led to engineering vehicles being labeled as “uncomfortable” all the time. However, the Sitrak G7S Plateau Version Dump Truck comes out swinging with a wide-body, high-roof, four-point airbag-suspended cab, maximizing driving comfort in the engineering vehicle segment—it offers ample space and superior shock absorption. While many peer models also feature high-roof designs, their cabs still rely on spring suspension systems.

It is widely acknowledged that the Gold Standard Sitrak represents the top-tier model in its class, and the gold-standard badge on this dump truck also signifies an extensive array of configurations.

The bumper adopts an all-new three-section high-mounted engineering version front bumper. Unlike the previous “small-eye” design inspired by MAN trucks, this new bumper exudes a robust, muscular look with a more striking appearance. In addition, its practicality has been fully upgraded: the ground clearance of the bumper is increased to 810mm, the lower part is equipped with an anti-collision bar and a carbon steel water tank guard plate. The three-section design allows for separate replacement of damaged parts, reducing maintenance costs. The bumper is integrated with a trailer hook and made entirely of metal, delivering unparalleled durability.

The vehicle is also fitted with full LED headlights. In southwest China and Tibet, engineering vehicles often need to travel on unlit roads to access construction sites—full LED headlights can effectively enhance lighting performance. The low beams are equipped with lenses for better light concentration and ground illumination. Moreover, the headlights adopt a split design, enabling separate replacement of damaged components if needed.

A foldable pedal is mounted on the bumper, which functions as a secondary step when unfolded, making it easier for drivers to clean dirt off the windshield.

The Sitrak G7S uses a three-section door hinge, allowing the door to open at an angle of nearly 90°. The boarding pedal has three steps, with the bottom step being retractable.

The driver’s seat is Sitrak’s classic multi-functional airbag shock-absorbing seat, upholstered in leather. It comes with adjustable damping, height adjustment, ventilation, heating and lumbar support functions, which can maximize driving comfort in complex operating conditions.

The in-cab configuration is also top-of-the-line, including a multi-function steering wheel, a large LCD infotainment screen and automatic air conditioning. The wrap-around console facilitates easy operation of functions such as the differential lock and power take-off (PTO).

The original factory engineering vehicle chassis is fully featured. The console is equipped with buttons for switching between the main and auxiliary fuel tanks, factory-installed sprinkler switches and dual differential locks. It also thoughtfully bears the reminder “Disengage PTO when driving”. Different from other models, Sinotruk adopts a direct-drive PTO structure, which enables power take-off without engaging gears for more flexible operation. This reminder can help drivers minimize losses caused by operational errors as much as possible.

The co-driver’s side is equipped with a pull-out small table, a standard feature in Sitrak’s new interior, which is quite practical for having lunch on the go.

The lower bunk is a split-type design with one-sided widening, measuring approximately 80 centimeters in width—more than sufficient for an engineering vehicle.

The vehicle features a high-roof single-berth layout with only one lower bunk. This design is not intended for weight reduction, nor is it simply because dump trucks are usually single-manned; the reason will be explained later when introducing the upper body structure.
Plateau-Exclusive Power & Rugged Chassis Configuration
In terms of power, the Sitrak G7S Plateau Version is equipped with the MAN technology-based MC13H engine. Unlike the previous near-13-liter upgraded MC13 model, this engine achieves a true 13-liter displacement of up to 13.02L. Its maximum output horsepower is upgraded from the previous 570HP to 580HP, with a peak torque of 2750N·m, which can be sustained across the entire speed range of 950rpm to 1400rpm.

The MAN engine boasts unique power characteristics—it delivers a steady, robust performance with strong power sustainability. Unlike some other engines that provide a burst of power followed by a rapid drop-off (which may require gear shifting or re-starting on half-slopes), the MAN engine has garnered a loyal following among users operating in mountainous regions.

For the plateau version, the MAN MC13H engine also features several design differences compared to the engine used in logistics vehicles. For instance, it is fitted with a Holset turbocharger with larger inertia, ensuring balanced air intake volume and boost pressure at high altitudes, thus minimizing power loss when operating at altitudes of up to 5000 meters. In addition, high-power glow plugs are added to the engine’s air intake, which can better assist the engine in cold starts and ensure the temperature rise and thermal efficiency of the cold engine.

The transmission is a Sinotruk 12-speed manual gearbox, with an optional 13-speed version available later. Compared to the 12-speed model, the 13-speed version adds an ultra-low climbing gear with a larger first-gear ratio, which reduces clutch wear during heavy-load hill starts. Of course, the 12-speed gearbox also performs exceptionally well—although there is a slight gear clash when shifting, all gears can be engaged with a bit of effort. It is rugged, durable and features affordable replacement parts.

The rear axle is an 18-ton MAN technology-based wheel-side reduction axle, with optional ideal gear ratios of 5.92 and 6.73 for mountainous operations. The wheel-side reduction axle uses planetary gears at the wheel ends to reduce speed and increase torque, allowing for greater ground clearance of the rear axle housing. Coupled with the top-mounted brake chamber structure, it effectively improves chassis passability. The tandem rear axles are all equipped with rear axle stabilizer bars, which are also mounted in a high position. For dump trucks with a high center of gravity when loaded, this design enhances safety during both driving and unloading operations.

The vehicle is fitted with 12R20 steel wire tires paired with reinforced steel wheel rims. The frame is an 8+8 double-layer high-strength steel structure with local reinforcement, supported by an 11+11+12 leaf spring suspension system. It is equipped with double inverted U-bolts and a thickened balance shaft design, delivering undeniable load-bearing capacity. Despite its comprehensive configuration, the chassis weight is kept low at only 11.3 tons thanks to 12 scientific weight reduction technologies, ensuring that the vehicle can be legally registered after the upper body is installed.

Given the large temperature difference between day and night in plateau areas, the Sitrak G7S Plateau Version Dump Truck comes with a factory-installed dual-chamber fuel tank as standard. Drivers can use negative-grade diesel from the small tank for cold starts at night or in the early morning, then switch to 0-grade diesel from the large tank when the temperature rises.

The right side of the frame is fully reserved for installing a water tank with a capacity of over 2 cubic meters for sprinkler systems. Combined with the vehicle’s hydraulic retarder and exhaust brake, downhill safety is guaranteed, with almost no risk of brake overheating.

The air filter is a standard two-stage air filter for engineering vehicles, consisting of an oil bath filter and a paper filter. It offers better filtration efficiency against construction site dust, effectively extending the service life of engine components and the service interval of engine oil.

To adapt to mountainous road conditions and minimize the turning radius as much as possible, the Sitrak G7S Dump Truck adopts a wheelbase of 1800+3425+1350 (mm), paired with a 6.8m long, 1.5m high grid-structured standard cargo box body manufactured by Sinotruk Qingzhuan.

As for why a flat-floor high-roof cab is used, it is actually a response to local user needs. With a flat-roof raised-floor cab, the hydraulic baffle of the cargo box would look rather obtrusive when raised to 2.2 meters, while the high-roof cab aligns almost perfectly with the baffle, resulting in a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Postscript

Whether for replacing old vehicles or purchasing new ones for energy projects, the Sitrak G7S Plateau Version Dump Truck stands out among a host of new models. On the basis of ensuring a robust chassis and reliable load-bearing capacity, it comprehensively improves driving comfort, operational convenience and maintenance economy, redefining what a “plateau version” vehicle should be. It is not only a “pleasure to drive in Tibet”, but also a testament to Sinotruk’s product confidence and technological accumulation when addressing complex operating conditions and diverse user needs.
