On March 22, 2024, BYD Commercial Vehicles and Sichuan Road and Bridge Group brought us T31 electric tipper. As the main model of BYD commercial vehicles targeted at the urban infrastructure construction and engineering transportation markets, more than 300 units of the T31 series have been delivered to Sichuan Road and Bridge Group.

Today, the protagonist of our article is a BYD T31 pure electric muck truck, which is mainly used in urban construction muck and construction waste transportation conditions. It is also the “strongest combat capability” of BYD Commercial Vehicle’s new energy muck truck products. Compared with similar pure electric dirt truck products on the market, BYD T31 has good advantages. Next, let us take a look together.

When it comes to pure electric tippers, the electric systems cannot be avoided. As the leader in the domestic electric truck industry, BYD’s three-electricity level can be described as “far ahead”. At the same time, BYD is also the only company in the world that masters the entire industry chain of new energy vehicle chips, motors, electronic controls, and batteries. On the T31 electric tipper, the vehicle uses a six-in-one controller independently developed by BYD. It is more integrated, smarter, and has a lower failure rate to ensure the excellent performance of the electric system.

In terms of battery, the T31 Electric Tipper uses a lithium iron phosphate battery pack independently developed by BYD, which is available in two configurations: 355kWh and 444kWh. High energy density, strong safety, and excellent charge and discharge capabilities are the highlights of lithium iron phosphate battery packs. On this basis, a new generation of models equipped with blade batteries is about to be launched. It has greater power, higher energy density, and greater safety.

The dual-gun fast charging system is also one of the standard features of BYD T31 Electric Tipper. The single gun is 250A and the dual-gun is 500A. The battery can be fully charged in about two hours to meet the needs of high-intensity work throughout the day.

In the actual infrastructure project of Sichuan Road and Bridge, the BYD T31 Electric Tipper with 355kWh power can meet the complex working conditions of short-distance high-frequency transportation and can work properly for a day.

In terms of electric drive system, BYD T31 Electric Tipper uses a high-power dual-winding motor with a maximum power of 390 kilowatts (530 horsepower) and a maximum torque of 3,200 Nm. Combined with the “on call” torque characteristics of the motor, the BYD T31 pure electric slag truck has a strong power output level. It can easily start, climb and accelerate under heavy load. The maximum gradeability of the full load is as high as 43%, and the maximum speed reaches 85KM/H.

The motor is matched with a 6-speed new energy-specific AMT gearbox, the model is Fast 6E240. The first gear ratio of this transmission is 8.456, and the top gear ratio is 1. The larger first gear ratio helps to improve the vehicle’s heavy-load starting and climbing performance, and the highest gear is directly shifted, which further improves transportation efficiency. Of course, BYD T31 Electric Tipper is also equipped with a 6.733 large speed ratio rear axle, which has excellent deceleration and torque increase effects, further enhancing the power level.

In response to the actual use needs, BYD has enhanced the stiffness and hardness of the rear axle leaf springs, thereby bringing stronger load-bearing capacity and reliability and meeting the challenge of full-load driving on rough and bad roads. Multiple leaf springs support dual riding cards, and the carrying capacity cannot be underestimated.

Next let’s take a look at the appearance. The appearance of BYD T31 Electric Tipper was designed by Wolfgang Egger, BYD’s global design director and global design master. Sharp and simple lines perfectly outline the front contour of the vehicle, highlighting the vehicle’s sense of technology and future.

As a pure electric dirt truck, BYD T31 is equipped with a fully enclosed front mask. The black high-gloss paint is combined with the green body to create a contrasting effect. The closed front mask helps the vehicle reduce wind resistance while also enhancing its sense of technology and future.

The headlights adopt a combined design and are equipped with LED daytime running lights and LED turn signals. The light is slightly recessed in the bumper body to provide better protection. It is surrounded by black decorative panels, giving it a high-end feel.

T31 Electric Tipper adopts a new generation of cab, which is characterized by sharp edges and sharp lines. In addition to the excellent appearance, this also brings more space inside the cab. At the same time, the roof adopts a sleek design and incorporates a sloped shape to allow air to flow through faster and reduce wind resistance.

In terms of cargo box, the actual vehicle uses a rectangular cargo box . The dimensions of the cargo box are 5.6m long, 2.35m wide and 1.5m high, with a total volume of 20m³. The cargo box is made of high-strength and wear-resistant steel to meet the heavy load requirements of sand, gravel, construction waste and other materials.

After opening the door, the three-level boarding step comes into view. The pedals are made of metal and have non-slip serrated ridges that allow the driver to easily get on the vehicle.

As soon as you sit on the driver’s seat, you will immediately feel a sense of control over the vehicle: the T31 Electric Tipper adopts a floating and surrounding instrument panel design, which clearly displays various buttons and control panels in front of the driver.

The main driver’s seat adopts an airbag shock absorption system, which provides greater comfort when driving on bad roads. At the same time, there is a sleeper at the rear of the cab, which allows the driver to lie down and rest, reducing labor intensity.

There is a pull-out locker under the sleeper to expand the storage space in the car.

The roof also has multiple storage slots and lockers, providing considerable space.

The shift handle and handbrake are designed on the console next to the driver’s right leg.
