On August 23, ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions Division announced the successful mass production of the enhanced OnGuardMAX advanced driver assistance system, specifically developed for commercial vehicles. This marks the industry’s first commercial deployment of full-speed ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) in commercial vehicles, and it has been implemented first in China, significantly enhancing the safety level of intelligent driving technologies in commercial vehicles.
Innovative Technology, Comprehensive Safety Upgrades

The OnGuardMAX automatic emergency braking system (AEBS), first mass-produced in China by ZF in 2021, fully meets the pedestrian protection regulations in China. As demand for vehicle safety, intelligence, and comfort continues to rise in the commercial vehicle sector, global teams, including those in China, have been enhancing technological innovations and software functionalities. The enhanced OnGuardMAX product has successfully achieved mass production. This system features industry-first long-range + fisheye dual cameras and 77GHz millimeter-wave radar technology, combined with advanced algorithms and control systems, enabling real-time monitoring of the vehicle’s surroundings. It automatically adjusts speed and driving trajectories based on driving conditions, offering comprehensive functions such as full-speed range ACC (FSR ACC) with automatic following and stopping, traffic sign recognition, lane departure warning, sensor dynamic calibration, driver fatigue warning, intelligent speed assistance, and collision mitigation for city buses. The product boasts excellent and stable performance and is compatible with various vehicle platforms, now in mass production in China.
Leading the Way, Meeting Market Trends and Regulatory Requirements
The OnGuardMAX enhanced version is the industry’s first product to offer full-speed ACC functionality for commercial vehicles, allowing vehicles to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front at any speed and automatically adjust speed based on the front vehicle’s status. Even if the front vehicle stops and restarts, FSR ACC will support the vehicle in automatically following and stopping in response to the front vehicle’s movements. This intelligent cruise control mode not only reduces driver fatigue and enhances driving comfort and stability but also enables rapid response in emergencies, effectively preventing collisions and ensuring driving safety.
Furthermore, the OnGuardMAX enhanced version has been designed and manufactured with regulatory compliance in mind. The new version meets the latest European GSR regulations, better supporting Chinese commercial vehicle manufacturers in expanding into overseas markets.
Leading the Industry, Continuously Driving Intelligent Driving Innovation
Yu Sujie, President of ZF Commercial Vehicle Solutions Division Asia-Pacific, stated: “The OnGuardMAX, developed with the participation of the Chinese team, brings advanced technology to China first and is implemented in China first, demonstrating ZF’s ‘local for local’ strategy. The strong support from customers for the commercialization and mass production of this product highlights our recognized innovation and technological strength in the intelligent driving field. The mass production of the enhanced OnGuardMAX sets a new benchmark for safety and efficiency in the commercial vehicle industry and underscores ZF’s leadership in promoting the intelligent development of commercial vehicles.”
With the successful market launch of the enhanced OnGuardMAX, the development of the next-generation OnGuardMAX has already begun. ZF will continue to increase R&D investment, leveraging global team collaboration to improve product performance and iterate continuously, providing more advanced and reliable intelligent driving products. This will offer professional and comprehensive technical empowerment to customers in China and worldwide, creating a more comfortable, safe, and efficient travel experience for end users.
