On April 16th at 10:00 AM, Weichai Power’s Future Technology Laboratory was officially inaugurated. This marks a significant move by Weichai to prepare for the upcoming “dual-carbon” era and lead the energy revolution. It’s also a crucial milestone in propelling Shandong Heavy Industry Group’s entire vehicle and machinery division toward world-class status in technology.
The unveiling ceremony of the laboratory was attended by Weichai Power’s Chairman and Chief Engineer, also the director of the National Key Laboratory for Internal Combustion Engine and Power Systems, Tan Xuguang, along with Weichai Power’s Assistant General Manager and Director of the Future Technology Research Institute, Sun Nannan. Also present were leaders from Weichai Group’s affiliated companies, business directors, party and government officials from various units, R&D system leaders at the deputy division level and above, and all Ph.D. personnel, totaling more than 260 witnesses to this important moment.
This laboratory represents an investment of over 2 billion yuan by Weichai Power, taking 4 years to build, covering an area of 7,000 square meters with a building area of 28,000 square meters. It includes 46 independent test labs, covering cutting-edge research fields such as new energy power battery and fuel cell technology, National Stage 7 emission post-treatment, electronic control technology, high-reliability friction and wear technology, lubrication technology, and more. It is the world’s largest comprehensive test lab for multi-source power, equipped with top-level test equipment globally, upgrading precision from micrometer to nanometer level, and possessing globally leading test capabilities in the three major R&D platforms: entire vehicle and machinery, new energy commercial vehicle power systems, and future technologies.
Looking globally, a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation is advancing rapidly, with science and technology penetrating and integrating with economic and social development. Actively nurturing future technologies and industries is a crucial measure to effectively cope with international technological competition and seize the high ground of global industrial development. General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized: “Actively nurturing strategic emerging industries such as new energy, new materials, advanced manufacturing, and electronic information, actively nurturing future industries, accelerating the formation of new quality production forces, and enhancing new development momentum.”
The Future Technology Laboratory is Weichai Power’s comprehensive layout of research and experimental equipment resources for the next 20 years, shouldering the three major responsibilities of speeding up the creation of a top-notch results output platform, synergizing innovative resources, and incubating top-notch talents. In the future, this laboratory will be based on Weichai, serving Shandong Heavy Industry’s entire vehicle and machinery business, providing innovative support for the entire industry chain, creating new strategic technological advantages for Shandong Heavy Industry Group, and leading the Chinese industry towards global excellence in power technology.
