In order to deeply implement the “All in” new energy strategic deployment of FAW Group and accelerate the business layout of light commercial vehicles, recently, the Qingdao Mini Commercial Vehicle Project of FAW Jiefang officially started construction. Through innovating the cooperation model between the government and the enterprise, this project efficiently revitalizes the resources of the Qingdao New Energy Base, marking an important progress in the implementation of FAW Jiefang’s new energy strategy. After the project is put into production, it will achieve the co-line production of fuel and new energy vehicle models, with a planned annual production of 100,000 mini trucks.

As a key measure for FAW Jiefang to improve its product matrix and achieve full-scene coverage of commercial vehicles, this project upgrades and renovates the original Hailong Automobile City Factory. By building a new welding workshop, renovating the painting and final assembly workshops and related supporting facilities, and introducing advanced equipment, it fully meets the needs of modern production. Currently, the stamping dies have officially started to be processed, and the welding tooling equipment is also being installed successively. The transformation of other processes is being carried out in an orderly manner according to the plan. At the same time, the renovation of the relevant supporting facilities in the park has also been launched simultaneously to ensure the coordinated progress of the overall project, and trial production is planned to start at the end of October this year.
This project constructs two major product platforms for traditional energy and new energy, covering several technical routes such as gasoline, NG, pure electricity, and hybrid power. It adopts advanced intelligent manufacturing technology to create an efficient, flexible, and green production system. During the project promotion process, engineering analysis is carried out simultaneously, accurately positioning the whole vehicle and its components, conducting dimension chain verification and basic tolerance decomposition to ensure the close coordination between product design and manufacturing processes. Focusing on the optimization of production cycle and the improvement of quality, 153 process analysis and development tasks are planned to comprehensively improve product quality. In addition, the project benchmarks the passenger car matching system, systematically and standardly carries out the matching of the whole vehicle, and is committed to creating a car-class texture appearance and excellent quality.
The construction of this project is not only an important measure for FAW Jiefang to improve its product matrix, support the sales target of light vehicles, and enhance its market competitiveness, but also another achievement of the deepened cooperation between FAW Jiefang and the local government. It will inject new impetus into the innovative and high-quality development of the FAW Jiefang automobile industry chain.
