Chinese Intelligent Manufacturing Quality Goes Global, SAIC Maxus’ Factory-built RVs Embark on a Journey to Australia

At the end of April 2025, at the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, SAIC Maxus made a big announcement: SAIC Maxus’ factory-built RVs, as the first Chinese RV brand of self-propelled RVs to go global, have set sail from Shanghai and entered the Australian market. The first batch of Australian-customized factory-built RVs rolled off the production line at the SAIC Maxus RV production base in Liyang on April 25 and were fully prepared for shipment to the port for export.

The choice of the Australian market is not accidental. As one of the most mature RV culture markets globally, Australia has a RV ownership of over 850,000 units and an annual sales volume of nearly 50,000 units. RVs have long become an important way for local residents for long-term sojourns, migratory travels like migratory birds, and vacation trips. Its vast territory, diverse landforms, and complete camp infrastructure provide an ideal environment for RV use.

SAIC Maxus’ factory-built RVs actively expand into the Australian market, bringing a brand-new sojourn experience to Australian users.

Technological Leader: From No.1 in the Domestic Market to Global Breakthrough

The profound technological foundation of SAIC Maxus’ factory-built RVs is the key to this overseas expansion. As the first enterprise in China to achieve “delivery of over 10,000 RVs”, SAIC Maxus’ factory-built RVs have ranked first in the comprehensive market share of the domestic market for four consecutive years, continuously leading the development trend of domestic RVs with technology: In 2016, the industry was generally limited by the technical weaknesses of 12V lead-acid batteries, such as small capacity, short lifespan, and low charging and discharging efficiency, which could not meet the actual needs of users for long-term parking and living. In 2019, SAIC Maxus RVs took the lead in upgrading to 48V lithium iron phosphate batteries, with the cycle life jumping to over 3000 times, greatly improving the power consumption experience of users. Then, in 2021, it disruptively launched a 12V + 48V dual-power generation system, further solving the problems caused by the scarcity of campsites and users’ electricity anxiety in China. In 2023, SAIC Maxus RVs’ system evolved again, adding a large 14.5-degree lithium battery, and the power generation capacity of the 12V + 48V dual-power generation system increased to 6 kilowatts, becoming the first RV brand in China to mass-produce RVs with support for high-power DC fast charging, setting an industry benchmark.

In 2025, SAIC Maxus RVs innovatively launched PHEV hybrid architecture models B and C, equipped with large-capacity power batteries. The comprehensive power consumption can reach 35 degrees, supporting simultaneous power discharge inside and outside the RV, and enabling the synchronous operation of high-power electrical appliances such as coffee machines, induction cookers, and projectors. Moreover, the energy replenishment efficiency has also achieved a breakthrough. The parking idling charging power is as high as 15kW, and it can quickly charge 1kWh of electricity in the fastest 5 minutes, and the lithium battery can be fully charged in 1 hour, significantly shortening the energy replenishment time. The new hybrid technology achieves “ultimate freedom” through intelligent coupling of oil and electricity, with a comprehensive cruising range of over 1000 kilometers, making it fearless of long-distance travels and greatly expanding the living radius.

The Confidence of Global Empowerment: From the Supply Chain to the Service Ecosystem

Relying on SAIC Maxus’ global system, this expedition has deeply integrated the needs of the Australian market from the initial product design. After half a year of in-depth research in Australia, 5 auto show exchanges, and visits to dozens of campsites and dealers, the needs of users in the Southern Hemisphere have been deeply integrated into the product design. The supply chain system has been comprehensively reconstructed, from the global compliance selection of core functional components to the localized reserve of after-sales parts, ensuring seamless connection from production to service. Relying on SAIC Maxus’ over 100 service outlets in Australia, it provides high-quality service support “at the doorstep” for Australian users.

Forward R&D: Deeply Favored by the Overseas Market

SAIC Maxus’ factory-built RVs are the only RV enterprise in China that conducts hierarchical certification from components to the complete vehicle and the only one that fully introduces the complete vehicle forward development process (RVDP). Through the in-depth integrated development of the chassis, power system, and upper assembly system, it ensures the performance and reliability of the complete vehicle. This integrated vehicle manufacturing strength is particularly attractive to overseas users who value quality stability and reliability.

Focusing on Technology: Decoding the “Key to Passing” Australia’s High Standards

For this overseas expansion, facing Australia’s stringent ADR certification regulations, SAIC Maxus’ factory-built RVs have completed more than 50 special certification tests for the waterway and electrical appliances. After two rounds of actual vehicle tests and three rounds of certification tests, they have uploaded compliance documents through the ROVER system and jointly completed the on-site approval of the whole vehicle’s water and electricity system with Australian licensed engineers, soon bringing the global commitment of Chinese RVs that can be “used right out of the box” to Australian users.
