Recently, the 2025 Annual Meeting of ISO/TC 70 (International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee on Internal Combustion Engines) concluded successfully. The proposal for the Preliminary Work Item (PWI) of the international standard “Hydrogen-Fueled Internal Combustion Engines – Pre-Ignition Identification and Test Methods”, jointly submitted by Weichai and Beijing Institute of Technology, was approved for project initiation. This is one of the first batch of preliminary research projects on hydrogen internal combustion engine-related international standards launched by ISO/TC 70, and also a unique contribution by Weichai in the field of hydrogen internal combustion engine technical standards.

Established in 1949, ISO/TC 70 is mainly responsible for the research, formulation and revision of international standard systems for internal combustion engines, including definitions, performance/tests and special requirements. It has 1 subcommittee, 1 Chairman’s Advisory Group and 6 active working groups. Weichai serves as the convener of the Performance and Test Working Group (WG4), leading the revision of the ISO 3046-1 international standard.

As a pioneer in China’s hydrogen internal combustion engine field, Weichai has successfully applied for the industry’s first national key R&D project on hydrogen internal combustion engines relying on its profound technical accumulation over the years. Its products have been applied in road, non-road and other scenarios, not only establishing a leading position in the domestic market, but also demonstrating continuously enhanced core competitiveness on the international stage.
