On November 10, China’s only national-level commercial vehicle exhibition – the 2025 China International Commercial Vehicle Show (CCVS, also known as the Wuhan Auto Show) – grandly opened at the Wuhan International Expo Center. With the theme of “High-end, Intelligent, Green”, this exhibition represents the “vane” of high-quality development in China’s commercial vehicle industry. As a local commercial vehicle enterprise in Hubei, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles fought “on its home ground” with the theme “Intelligently Painting a Green Future · Embracing Tomorrow”, bringing a rich array of exhibits with strong technology and solid strength. Next, let’s take a closer look.

The Tianlong GX is the flagship model of Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles, positioned primarily for efficient long-distance trunk line transportation. At this year’s Wuhan Auto Show, Dongfeng brought the Tianlong GX intelligent trunk line tractor. Compared with the previous conventional Tianlong GX, this model is equipped with a full set of intelligent driving assistance systems, aiming to reduce the driver’s labor intensity and deliver more efficient and safer trunk line transportation performance.

Based on the D760 platform, the Dongfeng Tianlong GX intelligent trunk line tractor adopts a new stylistic cab specifically designed for the Tianlong GX. Its wide-body high-roof structure and spacious interior enhance driving and riding comfort. The power system features the Dongfeng Cummins Z15N-630 natural gas engine, matched with the Winpow AMT gearbox and DF400A middle and rear axles, boasting the advantages of high horsepower and low gas consumption, which significantly improves operational efficiency.

During long-distance driving, the tedious journey is prone to driver fatigue, drowsiness, and distraction, posing a constant threat to driving safety. To minimize the driver’s mental and physical burden, the Dongfeng Tianlong GX intelligent trunk line tractor is equipped with an intelligent driving assistance system. Its vehicle sensors include five millimeter-wave radars, one camera, and one intelligent driving controller, covering a full speed range of 0-100km/h. Functions include high-speed car following, LCC (Lane Centering Control), ILC (Driver-Instructed Lane Change), PCC (Predictive Cruise Control), as well as AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) and LDWS (Lane Departure Warning System), comprehensively reducing accident risks. This intelligent driving assistance system does not have lidar and mainly relies on millimeter-wave radars, focusing on cost-effectiveness and accessibility, allowing more truck drivers to enjoy the “technological dividends” of safe driving.

At the exhibition site, Dongfeng also brought another Tianlong GX model. Adopting the English “DONGFENG” logo, it is a hydrogen fuel cell tractor built for overseas markets. Equipped with an advanced high-power and efficient fuel cell system and large-capacity backup 70MPa high-pressure hydrogen storage tanks, it takes only 20 minutes to refuel and has a range of over 700 kilometers, with operational efficiency comparable to traditional diesel vehicles.

The Dongfeng Tianlong GX hydrogen fuel cell tractor meets the strict EU ECE-R134 hydrogen safety regulations, equipped with active safety structures such as hydrogen system leakage grilles and anti-static high-pressure fans, ensuring hydrogen safety in all scenarios and dispelling operators’ doubts about the safety of hydrogen energy vehicles. On this basis, the vehicle is also equipped with safety sensors such as side blind spot radars (located behind the front wheels), meeting the requirements of the EU GSR2 Phase II General Safety Regulation, thus enabling legal operation in European regions. This demonstrates Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles’ global vision and profound technical strength.

Currently, the domestic freight market is highly competitive, and the problem of “involution” is intensifying, making “cost reduction and efficiency improvement” a crucial practical issue. Coupled with the goal of cleaning and reducing carbon emissions, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles brought the Dongfeng Tianlong KX dual-engine hybrid tractor to this auto show, positioned for long-distance trunk line transportation in mountainous areas. The vehicle adopts the Dragon Power golden power chain of DGi13-520 engine + DA12 gearbox, matched with a rear-mounted LNG gas cylinder with a capacity of 1350L. This combination not only delivers strong and reliable power output but also reduces the fuel cost of operation, offering more advantages than traditional diesel vehicles.

The Loong-Gine Power golden power chain itself achieves ultra-low gas consumption. Building on its excellent performance, Dongfeng also equipped this vehicle with a hybrid system. The system includes an 18.7kWh side-mounted battery and a Lucheng TZ410XS-LKM111 motor, with a peak power of 150kW and a rated power of 80kW. Supported by the “gas-electric dual engines”, the Dongfeng Tianlong KX dual-engine hybrid tractor can significantly reduce operational costs, achieving a comprehensive gas saving of up to 10% in mountain road tests. Additionally, its intelligent and precise shifting logic and smooth and efficient control create a relaxed and silky driving experience.

At the exhibition site, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles also brought the Tianlong KL extended-range hybrid tractor, positioned for coal-specific line transportation. The vehicle adopts an extended-range hybrid technology route, mainly driven by electricity. The engine does not directly participate in vehicle driving but serves as a “generator” to extend the vehicle’s range. This technology route is quite common in the passenger car industry and is now being promoted to commercial vehicle products.

The engine, motor, AMT, and axles of the Dongfeng Tianlong KL extended-range hybrid tractor are all mature assemblies with low failure rates and high reliability, fully tested by the market. The vehicle uses the Yuchai YCRE170-K08N20 natural gas engine as the range extender, paired with a 1000L gas cylinder. The battery pack has a capacity of 78.3kWh and is installed on the side of the chassis in a side-mounted structure. The drive motor has a peak power of 510kW and a peak torque of 2800N·m, with rapid power response, meeting the needs of heavy-load and high-intensity operation in coal transportation.

The extended-range hybrid technology route combines the advantages of internal combustion engines and motors, enabling super-strong power through the motor and longer range through the internal combustion engine. Supported by the “gas-electric dual engines”, the Dongfeng Tianlong KL extended-range hybrid tractor supports functions such as pure electric start and regenerative braking. Moreover, the engine can continuously operate at the optimal efficiency point to generate electricity, resulting in higher comprehensive energy utilization rate, lower corresponding energy consumption, and thus lower operational costs.

At the exhibition site, Dongfeng also brought two pure electric products. The picture above shows the Dongfeng Tianlong KL pure electric tractor, which uses a 600kWh ultra-large capacity battery in an “under-mounted” structure installed on both sides of the chassis, greatly improving the body space utilization rate. On this basis, the vehicle also adopts an integrated electric drive axle, featuring high integration and high transmission efficiency. Its power consumption is 10% better than the traditional central drive technology route, with a comprehensive working condition power consumption as low as 1.2kWh/km, achieving a comprehensive range of 460 kilometers.

The Tianlong KL megawatt ultra-fast charging tractor, a cooperation between Dongfeng and Huawei Digital Energy, also made its debut, positioned for resource short-distance transportation. The highlight of this vehicle is that it is equipped with Huawei Digital Energy’s full liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging technology, supporting dual-gun super charging with a maximum current of 2000A. The charging time from 10% to 80% SOC takes only less than 20 minutes. In the time it takes to rest and use the toilet, the vehicle can set off again with a high charge, bringing a revolutionary solution for pure electric heavy-duty transportation.

In 2025, Huawei joined hands with upstream and downstream industrial partners to build the Ultra-Fast Charging Alliance 2.0, and Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles is one of the alliance members. Benefiting from Huawei’s full liquid-cooled ultra-fast charging technology, the Dongfeng Tianlong KL megawatt ultra-fast charging tractor is only equipped with a 352kWh battery, which is lighter in weight and lower in battery cost than traditional pure electric tractors, comprehensively improving vehicle usage efficiency.

On this basis, Dongfeng also developed decoupled regenerative braking technology and auxiliary braking technology for the vehicle to reduce power consumption and further recover driving energy. Based on hundreds of thousands of customers’ driving big data, it independently developed a vehicle control system with optimal scenario-specific matching logic. Through various optimizations, the Tianlong KL megawatt ultra-fast charging tractor has become a highly advantageous solution, which will promote the high-quality and sustainable development of new energy heavy trucks.

What drives Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles forward? The answer lies in its Loong-Gine Power. At this auto show, Dongfeng showcased its Loong-Gine Power unified multi-energy platform and exhibits such as ammonia-diesel engines and methanol-diesel engines built on this platform. This unified multi-energy platform covers different energy routes including diesel, natural gas, hydrogen fuel, ammonia fuel, and methanol fuel. Through technology sharing across platforms in combustion systems, control systems, after-treatment systems, and braking systems, it greatly improves product practicality and reduces product development and usage costs.

Facing future market challenges, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles adheres to product R&D and business expansion. Currently, Dongfeng Loong-Gine Power’s unified multi-energy platform can provide five energy forms: oil, gas, hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol. It is also committed to the R&D of pure electric heavy trucks and advancing the industrial layout of power batteries and fuel cells. Today, China’s commercial vehicle industry has achieved remarkable results in energy structure transformation. At this auto show, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles brought 6 exhibition vehicles and 7 core technology exhibits, covering technical fields such as intelligent driving, hydrogen energy, pure electric, and hybrid power, comprehensively demonstrating Dongfeng Commercial Vehicles’ breakthrough achievements in the development direction of high-endization, intelligence, and greenization, which is “in perfect harmony” with the theme of this year’s Wuhan Auto Show.
