Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the new vehicle announcements of the 391st batch, and a number of popular vehicle models were unveiled. Among them, the first plug-in hybrid pickup truck under JAC Pickup – the JAC Hunter PHEV – was publicly exposed for the first time. Its power performance is truly “outstanding”, attracting a great deal of attention and popularity, marking the arrival of a powerful leader in the plug-in hybrid pickup truck market.

The publicity materials from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that the appearance of the JAC Hunter PHEV is basically the same as that of the fuel version. It adopts the Chinese Tripod-style front face design with a trendy Chinese style, paired with the Hunter Sky Eye thick-walled flowing turn signals and split headlights. It has replaced the logo with a blue JAC logo, which is highly recognizable. It can be optionally equipped with a roll bar and different styles of rims, and the “PHEV” logo has been added to the rear of the vehicle. The interior design has not been announced yet, but it is expected to be upgraded, and we will keep tracking it in the later stage.

In terms of body size, the JAC Hunter PHEV has a length, width, and height of 5620/1965/1620mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 3400mm, and the cargo box size is 1810/1590/470mm. This size is exactly the same as that of the large dual-cab model of the fuel version, leading the same class, ensuring the comfort and practicality of both the interior space and the cargo box space.

As a plug-in hybrid pickup truck, the power system is naturally the focus of consumers’ attention. The publicity materials from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology show that the JAC Hunter PHEV is equipped with a 2.0T hybrid-specific engine with the code HFC4GA5-6E, with a maximum power of 160kW and a maximum torque of 370N·m. The maximum powers of the front and rear dual motors are 130kW and 150kW respectively, providing powerful power output. It can significantly improve the driving and riding experience, reduce the vehicle usage cost, eliminate the range anxiety of pure electric pickup trucks, and retain the load-carrying advantage.
In terms of the power battery, the JAC Hunter PHEV is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack from Gotion High-Tech. The specific battery capacity and driving range have not been announced yet, but it is expected to have a good comprehensive driving range when fully fueled and charged. Moreover, the announcement shows that the JAC Hunter PHEV allows external charging and is expected to be equipped with an external power discharge function, which can meet the power consumption needs of different users and different scenarios, such as outdoor camping, fishing, and special operations, such as agricultural drones, emergency rescue, etc. It has a high degree of playability and malleability.
In conclusion, the JAC Hunter PHEV directly addresses consumers’ pain points with its advantages in power, comfort, and economy. Its overall performance is truly “outstanding”. Especially with its powerful power, it is more suitable for vehicle usage scenarios such as commercial use and off-roading. The addition of a body-on-frame structure also makes its load-carrying capacity and safety second to none. After its launch, it is expected to stand out in the new energy pickup truck market. Users who are planning to buy a high-load, high-performance body-on-frame plug-in hybrid pickup truck recently might as well look forward to it.
