Renault Trucks, a French commercial vehicle manufacturer, is now under the Volvo Group, sharing most of its technologies, such as engines and transmissions, with its “sibling” Volvo Trucks. As modern trucks advance toward intelligence and digitization, Renault Trucks, alongside Volvo Group, continues to evolve and gain more benefits.

On October 10, 2024, Renault Trucks officially released its 2025 models, including the T-High, T Series, C Series, and K Series heavy trucks. Among them, the T-High and T Series are aimed at long-haul transport, the C Series focuses on mixed conditions, and the K Series targets construction and engineering. This facelift update introduces more digital and intelligent features to improve vehicle productivity and reduce environmental impact.

The T-High model is Renault Trucks’ flagship for highway transport. Compared to the standard T Series, the T-High’s cab is mounted higher, reducing the engine hump inside the cab and creating a more spacious interior. Externally, the T-High features an additional layer of grille, giving it a more imposing appearance, akin to a “French giant.”

Although the standard T Series is positioned slightly below the T-High, it still offers solid and balanced performance. Its cab is set lower, helping to reduce the vehicle’s center of gravity, which provides a more stable and comfortable driving experience, along with better visibility for drivers. Additionally, the T Series is lighter in weight and lower in purchase cost, yet shares the same powertrain as the T-High, making it ideal for large fleet purchases.

Both the T Series and T-High models share a consistent exterior design, featuring the brand’s family-style design language. Since the debut of the Renault T Series, this distinct design has been maintained. Unlike most European trucks’ “shield-shaped” front facades, the Renault T Series divides the front into two parts. The upper part is a fully enclosed panel, while the lower part consists of an inverted trapezoidal grille with sharp headlights, giving it a standout look.

In 2022, the Renault T Series underwent a facelift. While maintaining the previous exterior structure, the facelifted model introduced new LED headlights with a dual-layer design, separated by LED daytime running lights/turn signals, giving a sharp and aggressive appearance. This design continues on the 2025 T Series, with the addition of an automatic high beam feature that activates based on external conditions, complementing the existing automatic low beam feature.

The distinctive appearance of the Renault T Series has sparked considerable debate, leading to polarized opinions. Due to the closed upper front panel design, some jokingly refer to the Renault T Series’ front as a “prime spot for advertising.” As a natural billboard, the front can be paired with company logos and promotional slogans, enhancing brand visibility.

A major feature of the 2025 Renault heavy trucks is the introduction of the CMS digital rearview mirror system, replacing traditional optical mirrors. This system, identical to that used on Volvo trucks, integrates infrared technology to offer excellent visibility, even maintaining a clear view at night. Additionally, the mirror arms can be folded to reduce outward projection, thus enhancing vehicle maneuverability in tight spaces. It also further reduces wind resistance and eliminates wind noise caused by traditional mirrors.

The CMS digital rearview mirror system will be standard on the T Series and T-High models, while the C Series and K Series will come with traditional optical mirrors, with the digital mirrors available as an option. This configuration is based on operational conditions: the T Series and T-High primarily serve highway transport, which benefits the most from digital rearview mirrors, while the C Series and K Series, focusing on mixed and construction operations, do not.

In 2022, Renault Trucks introduced the DE 13 TC turbo-compound diesel engine in its facelift models. This is Renault’s version of the Volvo D13TC turbo-compound engine, equipped with wave-shaped pistons, a new generation ECU, and a redesigned turbocharger. Combined with the turbo-compound system, it delivers 480 horsepower and 2700 Nm of torque, with a maximum torque range from 900 to 1250 RPM. Its torque surpasses Renault’s 520-horsepower models, and fuel consumption is reduced by 10%, thereby improving transport efficiency.

Building on the turbo-compound powertrain, the 2025 models feature A+-rated low-rolling-resistance tires and optimized transmission efficiency across the engine, transmission, and axles. Combined with the reduced wind resistance from the digital rearview mirrors, fuel consumption on the 2025 Renault trucks can be reduced by up to 3%, maximizing high-efficiency performance.

Complete side skirts are a key element in reducing wind resistance on the Renault T Series and T-High models. Rubber strips are added to the top and bottom, further closing the gap between the cab and trailer, preventing air from entering and creating turbulence that would drag down aerodynamic performance. Additionally, the new models feature side blind spot radar behind the front wheels, enhancing safety during lane changes and turns, in line with the EU GSR general safety regulation requirements.

Renault offers a special version of the 2025 T Series and T-High models called the “Smart Racer.” Compared to other models, the Smart Racer versions come equipped with the turbo-compound powertrain and feature all possible low-drag, high-efficiency, fuel-saving technologies to maximize usage efficiency and profitability while reducing costs. Compared to the standard models, the Smart Racer versions can achieve a 14% reduction in fuel consumption and a 15% reduction in CO2 emissions.

The Smart Racer’s promotional slogan and decals are also featured on the “natural billboard” front.

The 2025 Renault trucks’ interior design is highly tech-focused. A tidy four-spoke multifunctional steering wheel, fully digital instrument cluster, and touch multimedia screen compose the digital interior, making it both refined and practical. Multimedia screens, electronic parking brakes, and one-touch start buttons are arranged on the dashboard, with added striped decorative lines to reduce monotony and provide more detail.

The 2025 Renault trucks are equipped with a new electro-hydraulic power steering system, similar to Volvo’s VDS dynamic steering system. This not only provides a more comfortable driving experience but also integrates with active safety features, intervening in the driver’s actions to ensure safety.

Similar to Volvo, Renault’s digital rearview mirrors have five buttons below for adjusting the display. The screen shows a wide-angle view on the top and a long-focus view on the bottom, with auxiliary lines designed to mark the rear of the vehicle, aiding in maneuvering.

Renault’s digital rearview mirrors also come with a dedicated night mode. Similar to surveillance cameras’ infrared mode, it uses infrared fill light technology to produce clearer images, which is especially useful at night. The digital mirrors can even function like surveillance cameras, allowing drivers to monitor the exterior while resting inside the cab at night for added safety.

This concludes the introduction of the improvements made to the 2025 Renault trucks. Compared to the previous models, the changes in the 2025 version are not substantial, mainly focusing on optimizing the powertrain efficiency, adding electronic rearview mirrors, and upgrading driving comfort, making it a more efficient work machine. However, Renault is still somewhat lagging in promotion, as no actual photos of the new models have been provided—only computer-generated models, which is rather disappointing. The 2025 Renault trucks are now available for order at dealerships, and mass deliveries will begin soon. Thank you for reading this article!
